The Chartered Financial Analyst programme is a professional course offered by the US-based CFA Institute. The programme aims to grant ‘CFA charter’ to investment and financial professionals to help them further their career goals.

A candidate who successfully completes the programme, is declared ‘CFA charterholder’. There are over 1.2 lakh CFA members across 35 countries in the world.

In India the CFA exam is held at four cities, New Delhi, Bangalore, Kolkata and Mumbai.

The CFA Institute was formerly the Association of Investment Management and Research, holds a series of three exams, which the candidate can clear in four years. The programme covers a broad range of financial aspects including, investment management, financial analysis, stocks, bonds and derivatives.

 

CFA Exam 2018 Eligibility

Eligibility criteria for CFA first level is given below:

  • The candidate must possess an international travel passport.

The candidate must also fulfil one of the following:

Undergraduate:

  • The candidate must be a graduate or be a final year bachelor’s degree student. (To register for Level II exam, the candidate must have completed bachelor’s degree program) or

Work experience:

  • The candidate must possess four years of work experience or a combination of work experience and education that totals at least four years

CFA Exam 2018 Process

The course is divided into three levels:

Level I: Focus on basic knowledge of ten topic areas and simple analysis using investment tool

Level II: Emphasis on application of concepts and investment tools with the focus on valuation of all THE assets.

Level III: Focus on applying all the methods and concepts learned for effective portfolio management and wealth planning.

The exam for each level will be for six hours each, suggested prep plan is of six months.

 

CFA Exam 2018 Exam Centers

The exam centres are allotted to the candidates at the time of exam registration, based on their location. One exam centre can accommodate only a certain number of candidates, hence CFA will decide another exam centre for the students.

In India, CFA has exam centres in New Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai and Kolkata.

The above dates are June 2018 schedule for Level I, II and III. The admit cards will be available for download in the month of May. The exams will be graded in June-July and the results will be declared in August, 2018.

CFA Exam Pattern 2018

The level I exam of CFA programme is a six hour test, split into two,  with 240 multiple choice questions to be solved. The candidate has to appear in both the session in order to clear the exam.

  • Morning session is of 3 hours in which the candidate will have to solve 120 multiple choice questions.
  • Afternoon session is of 3 hours in which the candidate will have to solve the remaining 120 multiple choice questions.  Each question carries same weightage and there’s no negative marking for wrong answer.

CFA Exam Result 2018

Results of CFA exam (all levels) of all the candidates contain either ‘pass’ or ‘did not pass’. remark The result also contains the summary of their performance in each topic. Those who do not pass the exam as given a detailed summary of their performance. Candidates can download their results from the official CFA website.

Results of June 2018 exams for Level I, II, III will be announced in August 2018.

The results will be available to Level I and Level II candidates within 60 days of taking the exam and within 90 days for Level III candidates.  Detailed exam scores and responses to exam questions however, are not shared with the candidates as they are officially owned by CFA Institute.

A minimum passing score (MPS) is set by the CFA Institute Board of Governors, after every exam for each level. The purpose for this approach is to ensure fairness to candidates across administrations as the difficulty of each exam is taken into account when setting the MPS.

The results will be available for download on the official website for about a year after that the candidate will have to request for an official letter. This letter will confirming their “pass” or “did not pass” status, but their topic area performance summary will no longer be available.

CFA Exam Admit Card 2018

The admit cards for Level I, II, III exams for June 2018 session will be made available in May 2018. The candidates will be informed about their admit cards, by the exam conducting body well in advance.

The candidates must have a valid, unexpired international travel passport to be able to appear in the exam.

Once the admit cards are issued, the candidates can download and take a print out of it.

The admit card will carry following information:

  • CFA Institute ID number
  • The last four characters of your passport number
  • Your name as it appears in your CFA Institute account
  • Your passport expiration date
  • The name, date, and location of the test center where you are assigned to take the exam

If any of the above mentioned info needs to be corrected or updated, the candidate must login and submit ‘Identification Information Change Request’.

The candidates must note that if the passport information on the admit card do not match with the passport, he/she will not be allowed to appear in the exam.

CFA Exam Application & Registration Form 2018

Registration to CFA programme is a digitized process, wherein the form can be filled and submitted online along with the payment of fees.

Key points:

  • Create a login account with your email ID.
  • You will be asked to enter your name, email ID, password, and enter a security question.
  • After you’ve created and account, you can login and fill up the form.
  • Enrollment fee payment can be done online through Credit card: American Express, Diner’s Club, Discover, JCB,  MasterCard, UnionPay, or Visa
  • Or offline through wire transfer, ACH, check, money order, or postal order. Receipt of payment of the fees will be emailed to the candidates.

The one time programme enrollment fee is USD 450 and exam registration fee for all the three levels is USD 930. Late registration fee is USD 1380.
